Dubai has reinforced its position as a leading global trade and logistics hub by introducing an integrated logistics bridge that ensured the uninterrupted movement of essential goods to local and regional markets despite ongoing geopolitical pressures affecting global supply chains.
Working in strategic partnership with Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates Airline, Dubai Customs operated a fully integrated logistics system across Dubai International Airport Cargo Village and the Maktoum International Airport Air Cargo Centre. The initiative was designed to maintain smooth cargo movement, accelerate customs procedures, expand operational capacity, and safeguard the supply of food, pharmaceuticals, and other essential goods throughout the UAE and the Gulf region.
The operational results highlight the effectiveness of the initiative. The total volume of imported goods cleared through the two cargo facilities increased from 26,559,019 kilograms in January 2026 to 48,259,442 kilograms in May 2026, representing growth of more than 82%.
Daily cargo handling capacity also recorded a significant increase. The highest daily volume processed rose from 1,236,537 kilograms in January to 2,106,645 kilograms in May, demonstrating the logistics system's ability to manage growing demand while maintaining efficient customs clearance and service standards.
Dubai Customs stated that the benefits of the logistics bridge extended beyond the UAE by helping maintain supply chain continuity across GCC countries.
Through cooperation with Emirates SkyCargo, support operations carried out until May 2026 included 529 truck logistics trips, transporting 2,636 tonnes of essential goods such as meat, pharmaceutical products, and general merchandise.
These operations established an efficient logistics corridor that ensured vital shipments reached Gulf markets despite changing regional conditions, further strengthening Dubai's role in supporting regional trade and improving supply chain resilience.
His Excellency Abdulla bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, said the achievement reflects the long-term vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
He stated that Dubai has built an economic model based on resilience, preparedness, and flexibility, enabling the emirate to turn challenges into opportunities while reinforcing its reputation as a trusted global trading hub.
He added that Dubai will continue strengthening cooperation across its maritime, customs, and logistics sectors to improve readiness for future changes and ensure reliable global trade and resilient supply chains.
His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, said Dubai's ability to maintain trade movement and ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential goods reflects the leadership's vision and continued investment in developing a world-class logistics and economic ecosystem.
He said the successful operation demonstrated strong coordination between government entities and strategic partners while proving Dubai's ability to respond quickly to changing regional and global conditions without disrupting trade.
Dr. Busenad also confirmed that Dubai Customs will continue expanding its digital solutions and smart services in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, further strengthening the UAE's position as a leading international gateway for global trade.
Dubai Customs relied on several advanced smart initiatives, including the Green Corridor and the Shahin initiative, to create fast and secure customs clearance channels for priority shipments.
These initiatives focused on food supplies, pharmaceutical products, and other essential goods. Customs officers and inspection teams worked around the clock to ensure uninterrupted operations during the period of changing regional developments.
Additional operational measures included expanding inspection activities, making greater use of available cargo terminal space, and opening new inspection windows. These steps reduced congestion, shortened processing times, and ensured the continuous movement of shipments during peak demand.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, said Dubai once again demonstrated its ability to maintain the uninterrupted movement of global trade through advanced infrastructure, strong strategic partnerships, and a highly flexible operational system.
He noted that close cooperation between Emirates SkyCargo, Dubai Customs, and other government authorities played an important role in maintaining the steady flow of essential shipments while accelerating logistics operations to meet the needs of local, regional, and international markets.
Abbas added that the results further strengthen Dubai's reputation as a global air cargo and logistics hub. He said Emirates SkyCargo will continue investing in smart technologies and expanding operational capabilities to support international trade growth and build stronger, more resilient supply chains.
