Dubai has been recognized as the world’s cleanest city for the sixth consecutive year, according to the Global Power City Index (GPCI) by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation. The emirate scored 100% in the city cleanliness indicator, highlighting a strong partnership between the government, private sector, and community.
This achievement reflects Dubai’s long-term vision of creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable urban environment focused on people and community wellbeing. It strengthens the city’s global position as an attractive place to live, work, and visit.
The GPCI evaluates urban competitiveness across six areas: quality of life, environment, economy, research & development, cultural interaction, and accessibility, using over 70 international indicators. Dubai outperformed major global cities in the environment category, showing exceptional urban management and cleanliness standards.
Dubai Municipality plays a key role in maintaining this high standard. With a modern fleet of 785 vehicles, advanced machinery, 23,300 waste collection units, and a dedicated workforce of 2,876 sanitation engineers and 280 supervisors, the city ensures a comprehensive cleanliness system covering roads, markets, beaches, residential communities, industrial zones, and canals.
The city’s initiatives align with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which focuses on waste reduction, recycling, and a transition toward a circular economy. Key projects include the Circle Dubai initiative, smart community recycling centres, and the Warsan Waste-to-Energy Centre—the largest facility of its kind in the world.
His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “Cleanliness in Dubai is more than a service—it is a culture reflecting community responsibility. It improves quality of life and strengthens Dubai’s position as a sustainable and liveable city.”
Collaborative frameworks with private sector partners and community engagement programs, like ‘One Hour with a Sanitation Engineer,’ further enhance waste management and awareness.
Dubai’s recognition as the world’s cleanest city demonstrates its commitment to sustainability, urban excellence, and high-quality living standards, ensuring a safe, healthy, and attractive environment for residents and visitors alike.
