Controversial EasyJet Flight: Family Charged Over Deceased Grandmother

Controversial EasyJet Flight: Family Charged Over Deceased Grandmother

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

An unsettling scenario recently emerged from a flight journeying from Malaga, Spain, to London Gatwick involving EasyJet. Allegations arose that a British family transported their 89-year-old grandmother, who some passengers suspected had passed away before departure.

This incident took place on December 18, 2025. The family of five approached the airport with the elderly woman in a wheelchair, claiming she was fatigued and unwell.

Witnesses on the flight observed that the woman seemed entirely motionless, slouched in the wheelchair. Some onboard later recounted on social media how a fellow passenger, a doctor, examined her and declared her dead.

Despite these alarming signs, airport personnel permitted the elderly woman to board the aircraft. EasyJet later stated that her valid medical document indicated she was fit for travel.

As preparations for takeoff commenced, cabin crew detected a troubling issue. Upon checking the woman, they soon discovered she had passed away. Consequently, the flight was returned to the terminal.

Emergency responders boarded and confirmed the unfortunate news of her death. The flight encountered a delay of roughly 12 hours, much to the dismay of the passengers.

Social media buzzed with expressions of anger and disbelief. One traveler remarked that airline staff should never have allowed the woman to board. Another observed that someone was supporting her head during the seating process.

On the other hand, some passengers urged others to find empathy for the family involved, labeling the event as deeply distressing for all participants, including the flight crew.

Spanish authorities reported that officers were summoned due to the woman’s condition, confirming her passing on the plane. They noted she was permitted to fly thanks to her medical documentation and the presence of family support.

EasyJet asserted that the woman was alive when she boarded and noted the flight returned in response to a passenger requiring immediate medical attention. The airline expressed support for the grieving family and appreciated the passengers' understanding.

The family has yet to respond to these serious allegations.

This EasyJet incident has ignited critical discussions regarding pre-flight medical assessments and the management of such scenarios at airports.
