The Ministry of Health organized a major awareness event focusing on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) at the Khasab Sports and Cultural Club. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation. The purpose of this program was to spread clear, reliable, and easy-to-understand information about these two viruses and to help the local community learn how to protect themselves and others. The Ministry continues to work on raising awareness across the country, and this event was part of its ongoing efforts.
The awareness program featured a variety of activities designed to reach people of different age groups. Several specialized lectures were delivered by healthcare professionals who explained the causes, symptoms, prevention methods, and available treatments for HPV and HIV. These sessions aimed to correct misunderstandings and provide scientifically accurate information so that people could feel more confident about discussing these health topics. Along with the lectures, the event included interactive activities that encouraged students and community members to actively participate and ask questions.
A health exhibition was also set up at the venue where visitors could learn more through visual displays, brochures, and one-on-one discussions with health workers. The exhibition highlighted the importance of regular check-ups, early detection, safe practices, and vaccination in reducing health risks. It also showcased several community initiatives introduced by employees of the Directorate General of Health Services in the governorate. These initiatives were aimed at improving public health, promoting disease awareness, encouraging preventive care, strengthening community education, and supporting overall health promotion.
The event helped increase community engagement by involving schools and young students in its awareness competition. This competition encouraged creative participation and helped students understand the significance of maintaining good health practices. At the end of the program, the chief guest honored the students and schools that participated in the competition. The lecturers and the entire organizing committee were also recognized for their efforts and contributions toward making the event successful and impactful.
The Ministry stressed that raising awareness about HPV and HIV is important for reducing risks and protecting society. Events like these aim to empower individuals with the knowledge they need to make healthier choices and support a safer community environment.
