Agastya Nanda’s war drama Ikkis experienced a notable decline in its box office earnings on its inaugural Monday. Early trade estimates indicate that the film garnered approximately Rs 1.13 crore in India on Monday, bringing its cumulative total over five days to around Rs 21.50 crore.
Under the direction of renowned filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, Ikkis had a robust opening weekend that generated significant audience excitement due to its compelling tale of heroism. However, fluctuations in ticket sales throughout the weekend led to a marked decrease on Monday. Analysts point out that weekday drops are typical, but competition from other releases has also dampened its performance.
National Hindi occupancy on Monday was recorded at 9.17%. Morning shows logged a low occupancy of 4.78%, which improved to 8.58% in the afternoon. Evening screenings saw a slight uptick at 11.21%, while night shows wrapped up the day with the highest attendance of 12.11%.
Regionally, Delhi-NCR led with 635 screenings at a 10% average occupancy, followed by Mumbai with 346 shows averaging 10.25%. Currently, Ikkis is being screened across over 2,000 locations in major cities and small towns across India.
Despite favorable reviews and positive audience word of mouth, Ikkis is contending with strong competition at the box office. Aditya Dhar’s action thriller Dhurandhar continues to capture audience interest even in its fourth week, having earned Rs 4.5 crore on its 32nd day and is on track to hit the Rs 800 crore domestic milestone.
Ikkis portrays the life and sacrifice of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was India’s youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. Khetarpal was martyred at just 21 during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, receiving the nation’s highest military honor posthumously for his valor.
Agastya Nanda stars as Arun Khetarpal, effectively depicting the young officer’s bravery and determination on the field. Simar Bhatia plays Kiran, Arun’s love interest, introducing a personal element to this heroic tale.
The late, celebrated actor Dharmendra also features in a touching role as Brigadier M. L. Khetarpal (Retd.), Arun’s father, enriching the emotional texture of the film. The cast also includes notable performers such as Jaideep Ahlawat, Suhasini Mulay, Sikander Kher, Rahul Dev, and Vivaan Shah in significant roles.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Ikkis marries a historical war narrative with emotional depth, aiming to pay tribute to one of India’s youngest war heroes. While the film is praised critically for acting and direction, its box office journey reflects the challenges posed by competing commercial giants.
