India Voices Concern Over Hindu Attacks in Bangladesh

Post by : Meena Hassan

India has expressed grave concern following the recent murder of a Hindu individual in Bangladesh, labeling the ongoing targeting of minority groups as profoundly troubling. New Delhi emphasized that the rise in violence indicates serious lapses in law and order which must be addressed.

The Ministry of External Affairs is actively monitoring the situation and has registered significant alarm regarding the attacks on Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists. India demands that those accountable for these killings be identified and face the legal consequences.

Officials noted a concerning number of violent incidents against minorities in recent months, encompassing murders, arson, and disputes over land. India insists that these acts should not be trivialized as isolated occurrences or dismissed as mere political unrest.

The most recent incident took place in Rajbari district, approximately 145 kilometers west of Dhaka. The victim, named Amrit Mondal, was reportedly beaten to death by local residents in connection with extortion allegations. Police confirmed that Mondal, along with his associates, were confronted by locals over purported demands for money. He sustained grave injuries during the attack and succumbed later at a hospital.

Authorities announced that one suspect has been arrested, while others fled the scene. Weapons were seized, and it was noted that Mondal had several criminal charges against him. His remains are undergoing a post-mortem examination as inquiries progress.

This tragic event follows another horrific lynching in Mymensingh, where Dipu Das, a young Hindu factory worker, was killed based on accusations of blasphemy. Reports suggest he was beaten by a mob, hanged from a tree, and subsequently set on fire near a busy highway, disrupting traffic significantly.

The outrage surrounding this incident was amplified by the circulation of videos on social media. The interim Bangladeshi government denounced the violence, asserting its disapproval of mob justice and illegal actions. Authorities pledged to enforce stringent legal consequences for those involved in both incidents.

India has reiterated its expectation that Bangladesh will safeguard minority communities and ensure justice through appropriate legal measures.
