In a significant development for the eagerly awaited Drishyam 3, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak has confirmed that Jaideep Ahlawat will take the place of Akshaye Khanna. This change comes as a result of Khanna's sudden withdrawal from the project just ten days prior to the commencement of filming.
Pathak noted that Khanna was initially brought on board after extensive negotiations and an agreed fee. The actor had been instructed to avoid wearing a wig to ensure continuity with the previous films. However, influenced by external advice, Khanna opted to wear a wig, prompting disagreements with director Abhishek Pathak, who raised concerns about continuity in the sequel. Ultimately, this led to Khanna’s decision to exit the film.
Reflecting on Khanna's career trajectory, Pathak highlighted that Khanna experienced a hiatus before his recent roles in Section 375 (2019) and Drishyam 2 (2022), which revitalized his fame. The producer expressed worries that this resurgence may have affected Khanna’s professionalism on set, citing reports of unprofessional conduct and arrogance following his recent successes.
With Akshaye Khanna now out of the picture, Jaideep Ahlawat officially joins the cast of Drishyam 3. Pathak commended Ahlawat not only for his talent but also for his professional demeanor. He also mentioned having produced one of Ahlawat's earlier films, Aakrosh (2010).
The producer lamented the financial implications of Khanna’s abrupt departure and has issued a legal notice to him, with further legal steps anticipated.
Pathak expressed surprise over Khanna's wig requirement, emphasizing how it contradicts the need for a consistent appearance in a direct sequel.
With Ahlawat in the role, the production team is optimistic about continuing the esteemed legacy of the Drishyam franchise.
