Janhvi Kapoor Rejects Violence in Dipu Chandra Das Lynching Case

Post by : Meena Hassan

Actress Janhvi Kapoor has condemned the horrific lynching of 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. This tragic event, which involved a brutal mob attack that led to Dipu’s death by beating and immolation, has sparked widespread outrage. After viewing a disturbing video of the incident, Janhvi called the act a "slaughter" and criticized the rising extremism that fuels such horrific actions.

On Thursday, she shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram Stories titled "Dipu Chandra Das," urging the public to educate themselves on the circumstances of this tragedy, to view the available videos, and to vocally oppose such inhumane acts. She stated, "What is happening in Bangladesh is barbaric. It is slaughter and it is not an isolated incident. If you don’t know about his inhumane public lynching, read about it, see the videos, ask the questions. And if despite all of this you feel no rage, then it is exactly this kind of hypocrisy that will destroy us before we know it."

Janhvi also pointed out society's selective outrage, emphasizing, "We will continue to cry about things halfway across the globe while our own brothers and sisters are burnt to death. Extremism in any and every form needs to be called out and condemned before we forget our humanity," stressing the need to break the silence surrounding these heinous acts.

Dipu Chandra Das was a garment factory worker who was accused of blasphemy on Thursday night, leading to a mob assault in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. The mob attacked him brutally before setting him on fire, with his charred remains later discovered tied to a tree.

His family learned of the tragedy through social media and was heartbroken by their loss. Authorities have detained at least 12 suspects connected to the crime, and investigations are in progress.

This lynching has ignited outrage on social media, with many praising Janhvi Kapoor for her bravery in denouncing the violence. Comments applauded her willingness to confront Islamic extremism, particularly when many figures in Bollywood remain silent for fear of backlash or losing market support.

One user remarked, "She is calling out the brutal lynching of Dipu Chandra Das while the rest of Bollywood remains silent, too afraid of losing their precious Muslim-market money. Kudos to Janhvi for having the guts to condemn extremism right in our backyard."

Others recognized Janhvi’s awareness and her boldness to tackle critical social issues outside of her acting career. "I may not like Janhvi much as an actress, but she is very aware of what’s happening around and has the guts to speak out," one commented, adding that she uses her platform for important causes.

Many hope her courage inspires more public figures to speak out against violence and extremism wherever it arises.

This brutal incident underscores significant concerns over religious intolerance and mob violence in South Asia, raising urgent questions about the safety of minority communities. Human rights activists are calling for stronger measures to avert such tragedies and ensure swift justice for the victims.

As investigations proceed, the nation remains vigilant, hopeful for justice for Dipu Chandra Das and a stronger commitment to combatting extremism in all its forms.
