Malaysia has announced 2026 as the “Year of Execution”, signaling a robust effort to implement the policies outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). This declaration came from Economy Minister Datuk Seri Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir during his address for 2026, emphasizing a shift from planning to action.
The minister stressed that 2026, the inaugural year of 13MP's implementation, will prioritize the conversion of government policies into actual projects, initiatives, and development efforts that directly support the public. He indicated that the effectiveness of these policies would henceforth be evaluated based on tangible outcomes rather than mere intentions.
Akmal insisted that all policies introduced under the 13MP must effectively reach targeted groups and respond to real needs within communities. He noted that successful execution would serve as a principal performance indicator for the ministry's leadership.
Execution will be recognized as a collective KPI for senior officials, including the secretary-general, deputy secretaries-general, directors, department heads, agencies, and political leaders. Akmal affirmed that accountability will also apply to himself and the deputy minister, showcasing a commitment to governance focused on results.
The Madani government is invested in ensuring that the 13th Malaysia Plan transitions from theory to actual execution in a structured and impactful way. The goal is to turn strategic plans into actionable results that enhance daily life for Malaysians.
Akmal also recognized that realizing 13MP will be crucial for shaping Malaysia’s economic trajectory, particularly in light of the challenging global economic landscape. He emphasized that effective execution is key to empowering Malaysia and overcoming the middle-income trap.
To facilitate transparency and monitoring, the government will employ a digital framework via the MyRMK system to oversee the implementation of 13MP. This system will track performance metrics and clarify accountability among relevant implementing agencies, ensuring better management and coordination.
The economy minister highlighted the necessity of small-scale, impactful projects that can be completed swiftly to deliver immediate benefits. Initiatives like repairing bridges, upgrading rural roads, enhancing government housing, and improving educational and healthcare facilities will visibly showcase the government’s commitment to addressing pressing issues.
Timely interventions in such areas will bolster public faith in government efficiency, as citizens witness swift improvements instead of enduring prolonged discussions about larger-scale ventures alone.
With 2026 designated as the Year of Execution, the government is committed to ensuring that 13MP policies lead to substantial developmental results, thereby strengthening public trust and enhancing Malaysia’s economic durability.
