Tragic Crash of Mexican Navy Plane Near Galveston Claims 5 Lives

Post by : Meena Hassan

A tragic incident occurred on Monday as a Mexican Navy aircraft crashed near Galveston, Texas, resulting in the deaths of five individuals during a medical mission. The plane was transporting a child burn victim when it met with disaster.

Flight tracking information indicated that the last signal from the aircraft was registered at 3:01 PM local time (21:01 GMT), as it was navigating over Galveston Bay, near Scholes International Airport.

This flight was part of a humanitarian effort coordinated by the Michou y Mau Foundation, which aims to provide essential medical treatment to children in Mexico suffering from severe burn injuries.

As reported by Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy, one person remains unaccounted for while two survivors have been rescued.

Witnesses have shared video clips showing the submerged wreckage, with emergency responders and local volunteers continuing their search for survivors and wreckage in the water.

Local yacht captain, Sky Decker Jr., recounted his experience of retrieving two police officers to the crash area, diving into the water to rescue a severely injured woman trapped within the wreckage. He vividly described the desperate scene: “She had barely three inches of air to breathe. The water was mixed with jet fuel, and the fumes were intense. She was desperately fighting for her life.”

The Mexican Navy has confirmed that search and rescue efforts are underway, in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard, to locate the missing individuals and aid survivors.

Rescue teams, including divers, are operating under challenging conditions due to dense fog enveloping the vicinity of Scholes International Airport.

The Michou y Mau Foundation took to social media to convey their deep sympathies to the families affected by this heartbreaking event.
