Death Toll in Mexican Navy Plane Crash Reaches Six, Including Child

Post by : Meena Hassan

The Mexican Navy confirmed on Tuesday that the recovery of a missing passenger's body has led to a rise in the death toll to six following a military aircraft crash.

The plane was transporting eight individuals when it went down on Monday. Officials noted that two of the passengers survived the crash and are currently stable while receiving medical treatment.

President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed during her morning briefing that a two-year-old child is among the deceased. She offered her heartfelt condolences to the victims' families and highlighted that the flight included medical staff, Navy personnel, and relatives accompanying the child.

Local media N+ reported that the child had sustained serious third-degree burns from a boiling water incident. Hospitals in their hometown of Escárcega were unable to provide adequate care, leading to plans for transferring the child to a facility specializing in burns.

The family was linked with the Michou y Mau Foundation in Mérida, known for supporting children with grave burn injuries. The foundation sometimes facilitates treatment in Galveston, Texas.

Galveston authorities have yet to release further information, and the Mexican Navy has not shared details regarding the cause of the crash.

President Sheinbaum remarked that a thorough investigation is underway and confirmed close collaboration with US authorities to clarify the events during the last ten minutes before communication was lost.

US Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson expressed his condolences, stating that his thoughts and prayers are with all affected by this tragic event.
