Modi Calls for Peace Following Attack on Putin’s Residence

Post by : Meena Hassan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed significant concern regarding an assault reported on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin amidst escalating conflicts in Ukraine. This incident has drawn attention to the urgent need for diplomatic interventions on a global scale.

On December 29, 2025, Russian officials indicated that a coordinated strike from Ukrainian forces targeted President Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region, just north of Moscow. Officials in Moscow stated that 91 long-range drones were allegedly employed in this attempt, which they labeled an alarming escalation of hostilities. Conversely, Ukrainian representatives have firmly rejected these claims, denouncing them as misinformation and stressing that such statements jeopardize the fragile peace process.

Taking to social media, Prime Minister Modi quickly voiced his belief in the necessity of sustained diplomatic discussions. He urged both parties to concentrate on peaceful resolutions and refrain from any actions that might exacerbate tensions or jeopardize ongoing negotiations.

“I am deeply concerned about reports relating to the targeting of the Russian President’s residence,” Modi stated, reinforcing the message that all parties should prioritize discussion over military escalation. “It is crucial for all involved to maintain focus on these diplomatic efforts and to avoid any destabilizing actions.”

Modi’s appeal for calm comes during a crucial period as the international community aims to foster a peaceful resolution to the enduring conflict affecting global safety and economy. Many countries and international bodies are pushing both Russia and Ukraine to re-engage in meaningful negotiations directed toward lasting peace.

The reported drone attack has heightened fears of a further escalation in military actions, with analysts warning that increased hostilities may lead to wider regional instability. Modi’s advocacy for diplomatic solutions signifies India’s continuous commitment to constructive conflict resolution and global stability.

As both nations navigate the humanitarian and geopolitical challenges stemming from the conflict, global leaders remain vigilant and hopeful that renewed efforts for diplomatic dialogue can eventually secure lasting peace. The timing of Prime Minister Modi’s statement highlights the critical need for dialogue, restraint, and collaborative efforts to avert further deterioration.
