M. Ravi, Esteemed Human Rights Lawyer, Dies at 56

The respected lawyer Ravi Madasamy, better known as M. Ravi, tragically passed away after being discovered unconscious on December 24. At 6:50 a.m., he was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where, despite efforts from the medical team, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Authorities have stated that initial inquiries show there is no suspicion of foul play. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his sudden death is ongoing.

M. Ravi was held in high esteem within Singapore’s legal sector. He was particularly noted for his unwavering commitment to human rights and constitutional law. Throughout his extensive career, he was involved in numerous landmark cases that significantly contributed to the development of constitutional law and the protection of marginalized individuals' rights.

His close friend and fellow lawyer, Eugene Thuraisingam, shared his grief upon hearing the news. He remarked, “M. Ravi confronted numerous personal challenges yet remained steadfast in his dedication to his causes. His relentless advocacy has profoundly influenced Singapore’s legal framework. The loss of his presence is monumental for the legal community.”

Recognized for using the law as an instrument for social justice, M. Ravi tirelessly fought for justice and equality, garnering immense admiration from colleagues, activists, and the public.

As the legal community and society at large grieve M. Ravi's passing, tributes are pouring in, celebrating a lawyer whose courage and commitment have undeniably shaped Singapore’s legal narrative.
