ICE Agent Involved in Fatal Shooting of Minneapolis Woman

ICE Agent Involved in Fatal Shooting of Minneapolis Woman

Post by : Bianca Haleem

On Wednesday, a 37-year-old woman named Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, as confirmed by officials.

Good, a resident of the Twin Cities area, was near her home when the incident occurred. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that the shooting happened as officers faced obstacles while executing the operation.

Details of the ICE Operation

According to DHS, officers approached Good’s SUV and instructed her to exit the vehicle. Video evidence shows officers attempting to gain access to the driver's side before the vehicle abruptly reversed and moved forward again. Multiple gunshots were fired as the SUV collided with a parked car.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated that Good ignored several commands and attempted to run over an ICE officer, which was seen as a severe threat. The officer who discharged their weapon was struck by the vehicle and subsequently hospitalized but later released.

Tricia McLaughlin, a DHS spokesperson, affirmed that the confrontation led to the shooting of the woman. Both the FBI and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are currently investigating the matter.

About Renee Nicole Good

Renee Nicole Good lived in Minneapolis with her partner and was a mother to a six-year-old child, as per family statements.

Her mother, Donna Ganger, characterized her as “one of the kindest people,” highlighting Good's compassion and caring nature. “She was loving, forgiving, and affectionate. She was an amazing human being,” Ganger shared with the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Good graduated from Old Dominion University in 2020 with a degree in English. Her studies included creative writing, and she won the university’s undergraduate poetry prize for her work titled “On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs.” University President Brian Hemphill expressed regret over her death, noting it indicates a troubling trend of violence and fear in society.

Originally from Colorado Springs, Good had a passion for writing, watching films, and making art. Her social media profile depicted her as a poet, writer, wife, and mother residing in Minneapolis.

Previously, she was married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who passed away in 2023 at the age of 36, and they shared a child together.

Community and Government Reactions

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged the public to refrain from spreading false information about the case after viewing the video footage. He indicated that the situation is actively under investigation, emphasizing the need for facts to surface.
