Tragic Bus Overturning in Vietnam's Yen Bai Claims Seven Lives

Post by : Meena Hassan

On Saturday, a charity bus carrying 19 individuals overturned on a treacherous mountainous road in Vietnam’s Yen Bai province, leading to the deaths of at least seven people. The 29-seater bus was descending the slope when it reportedly lost control, flipped, and was left mangled, as per official reports.

The accident took place on a narrow, steep road notorious for its difficult driving conditions. Emergency response teams promptly arrived at the crash site following alerts early Saturday morning. By 10:30 a.m. local time, rescuers managed to extract 10 survivors from the wreckage. Nevertheless, several passengers remained trapped inside the bus, necessitating the use of heavy machinery to cut through the vehicle to reach them.

Hoang Anh Tuan, chairman of Phinh Ho commune, where the incident occurred, indicated that preliminary investigations point towards brake failure as the cause of the bus losing control while navigating the steep descent. “The driver most likely lost control due to brake issues on the incline,” Tuan stated.

Emergency teams, including local law enforcement, military, medical personnel, and volunteers, worked diligently throughout the morning to assist victims and manage the situation. Medical teams commenced treatment immediately for the injured, with some reported to be in critical condition.

Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. At the time of this report, further comments from officials had not been obtained.

This incident has profoundly affected the community and has sparked concerns regarding the safety of passenger transport along mountainous roads in the area.
