Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, held a series of high-level phone calls with international leaders to discuss the latest regional developments following missile attacks launched by Iran targeting the UAE and several countries in the region.
The diplomatic outreach came amid heightened tensions across the Middle East after the strikes, which raised concerns about regional security, global trade, and energy stability.
During the calls, Sheikh Abdullah spoke with Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee; Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq; Sugiono, Foreign Minister of Indonesia; Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico; Youssef Rajji, Foreign Minister of Lebanon; Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa; and Nikos Dendias, Minister of National Defence of Greece.
Discussions focused on the repercussions of the recent escalation and its potential impact on regional security and stability. The leaders also examined broader global implications, including possible disruptions to international trade routes, energy supplies, and the wider global economy.
Sheikh Abdullah and the officials strongly condemned the missile attacks attributed to Iran, describing them as a serious violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. They reaffirmed their rejection of such actions and emphasized the right of the affected countries to take necessary measures to protect their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of their citizens and residents.
The UAE foreign minister expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown by the international leaders and their support for the UAE during the tense period. He also reassured them that residents and visitors across the country remain safe.
All sides stressed the importance of coordinated international efforts to contain the situation and prevent further escalation. They highlighted the need to prioritise diplomatic engagement and political solutions to safeguard stability in the region and maintain global security.
