Shilpa Shetty Addresses ₹60-Crore Case, Defends Her Position

Shilpa Shetty Addresses ₹60-Crore Case, Defends Her Position

Post by : Meena Hassan

Shilpa Shetty Kundra, the well-known actor and entrepreneur, has publicly responded for the first time in light of the financial scandal associated with her and her husband, Raj Kundra. She firmly rejects any implications of wrongdoing and expresses distress over what she perceives as an unfair attempt to link her to a case she claims she was not involved in.

In her statement, Shilpa made it clear that her participation with the firm involved was strictly non-executive. She pointed out that she was not responsible for the company's operations, financial oversight, or any policy decisions. Her role revolved around product endorsements for a home shopping platform, akin to other public personalities, with some payments still pending.

The financial dispute pertains to a ₹60-crore case of criminal breach of trust involving the now-defunct Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, where both Shilpa and Raj Kundra served as directors. This case is currently being investigated by the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police, and includes allegations of cheating due to a businessman’s complaint regarding financial losses linked to a loan-cum-investment deal.

Shilpa revealed that her family had lent nearly ₹20 crore to the company, which remains unpaid. She challenged the timing and foundation of the allegations against her, noting that these claims surfaced almost nine years later, which she considers inconsistent with legal norms.

Expressing her distress over the ongoing public scrutiny of her name, Shilpa described it as draining and unwarranted. She highlighted that such unverified allegations can significantly tarnish a person's dignity and reputation, particularly impacting women in society.

Concluding her statement, Shilpa reflected philosophically, quoting the Bhagavad Gita, and reaffirmed her commitment to challenge injustice. She confirmed that a petition to dismiss the case has already been filed in the Bombay High Court and expressed her trust in the judiciary as she seeks to uphold her rights and reputation.
