Sindh Shooting of Hindu Farmer Triggers Outcry from Minority Groups

Sindh Shooting of Hindu Farmer Triggers Outcry from Minority Groups

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Earlier this week, a Hindu farmer was fatally shot in Pakistan’s Sindh province, leading to significant protests from minority and human rights organizations throughout the area.

Reports indicate that Kailash Kolhi, a Hindu tenant farmer, was shot in the chest by a local feudal landlord named Sarfaraz Nizamani, resulting in his immediate death. The motives behind this shooting remain unverified.

In response, various Hindu minority groups and human rights organizations initiated substantial protests in multiple regions of Sindh. Protesters are calling for the swift arrest of the suspect as well as filing murder and terrorism charges. They demand increased security and protection for Kolhi’s family.

Protesters described the shooting as a severe breakdown of law and order and urged officials to act immediately to safeguard minority populations in the province.
“Urgent actions must be implemented throughout Sindh to secure lives,” stated the collective in their statement.

Shiva Kachhi, chairman of the minority advocacy group Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, vehemently denounced the event, labeling the killing a “brutal and cold-blooded murder.” He asserted that this act was an assault on both individual justice and minority rights within Sindh.

Notably, this incident occurred shortly after Pakistan's remarks criticizing India regarding minority rights, with India countering by highlighting its own documented deficiencies in safeguarding minorities.
