Young Hero from Punjab: Shravan Singh Awarded National Bravery Medal

Post by : Meena Hassan

In a striking testament to the spirit of bravery, a young boy from Punjab has become a beacon of courage amidst heightened tensions along the India–Pakistan border. Shravan Singh, hailing from Chak Taran Wali village in Ferozepur district, has been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for his invaluable contributions to Indian Army soldiers during Operation Sindoor.

As military tensions surged in May and troops were stationed near his home, fear loomed over the border area. Civilians were asked to stay vigilant amidst the impending threat of conflict. In this climate of apprehension, 10-year-old Shravan opted to respond with kindness rather than fear.

Each day, as soldiers positioned near his village, Shravan made it his mission to provide them with vital comforts. From carrying milk and tea to delivering buttermilk, water, and ice, he tirelessly offered his assistance despite the scorching summer heat. His actions, although simple, demonstrated profound empathy and a commendable sense of duty.

Reflecting on those impactful days, Shravan expressed that he never expected his good deeds to garner national appreciation. He felt it was his obligation to assist the soldiers, and the recognition he received came as a delightful surprise.

Operation Sindoor commenced on May 7 in response to a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities. This led India to carry out targeted operations aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following failed drone and missile assaults by Pakistan, Indian forces successfully carried out precision strikes on select military installations. A ceasefire was established on May 10.

Throughout this turbulent period, Shravan remained steadfast in his supportive actions, navigating the inherent risks. His bravery earned him admiration from citizens and leaders, who celebrated his unwavering service at such a tender age.

The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar honors children's extraordinary achievements across various domains, including bravery, social service, innovation, sports, and more. Shravan was recognized in the bravery category for his audacious conduct during a perilous period.

His inspiring narrative serves as a powerful reminder that true patriotism is defined not by age or uniform but by the readiness to rise and help in critical moments.
