Tropical Storm Jangmi Strikes Japan, Halting Flights and Power

Tropical Storm Jangmi Strikes Japan, Halting Flights and Power

Post by : Shakul

On June 2, a tropical storm made its presence felt in southwestern Japan, bringing with it heavy rain and powerful winds that led to significant disruptions across several areas. Tropical Storm Jangmi, which had weakened from its initial classification as a typhoon, continued its path northwards after impacting the southern island of Okinawa.

Reports indicate that numerous households were left without electricity, with utility crews swiftly dispatched to restore power. Emergency responders monitored various weather-related incidents in the storm's wake, working diligently to ensure community safety.

Travel was heavily affected, with hundreds of flights—both domestic and international—facing cancellations or delays due to the inclement weather at airports. Transportation services urged travelers to stay updated on their travel plans as conditions remained unpredictable throughout the day.

Local officials reported at least nine injuries attributed to the storm, mainly from accidents involving strong winds, falling debris, and hazardous conditions. Emergency teams remained vigilant as the storm progressed through affected regions.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued alerts regarding high waves, potential landslides, and flooding, advising residents in coastal and mountainous zones to exercise caution. There were also warnings that saturated soil could result in increased landslide risks, even as the storm's intensity began to wane.

Okinawa was particularly hard hit by the storm, with powerful winds and rough seas significantly disrupting daily life and business operations. Local authorities enacted emergency protocols to protect residents and mitigate damage.

Meteorologists are keeping a close eye on Storm Jangmi as it makes its way north. Despite losing typhoon status, officials remind residents that it still poses a danger due to possible adverse weather. All those within the affected areas are encouraged to remain vigilant and consult official weather updates as recovery efforts continue.
