In a bold statement, US President Donald Trump proclaimed his pivotal role in resolving the India-Pakistan conflict. Addressing attendees at a White House meeting with oil and gas leaders, Trump asserted that no individual in history is more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than himself. He criticized Barack Obama for receiving the accolade without tangible contributions to peace.
During this gathering, Trump reiterated his assertion regarding the shooting down of eight jets during last May's clashes, though he did not specify their affiliations. He also boasted of addressing eight protracted wars throughout his leadership, some continuing for over thirty years, while emphasizing his preventive role in averting significant conflict between the two nuclear nations.
Furthermore, Trump revealed that Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged his efforts in saving countless lives by ceasing hostilities. This marks the latest in a series of claims from Trump regarding the resolution of tensions between India and Pakistan, which he has consistently made since he brokered a "full and immediate" ceasefire after mediation efforts last year on May 10.
The hostilities initiated in early May 2025, when India executed Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for a lethal attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 civilian fatalities. After several days of intense strikes, both nations reached an agreement to halt the conflict, although India has not acknowledged any external mediation.
Trump asserted that his diplomatic efforts are unmatched and voiced disapproval of Obama receiving the Nobel Prize soon after assuming office in 2009, claiming he had done nothing to earn such an honor. He contended that efforts that genuinely deter major wars deserve recognition with Nobel accolades, insisting he has preserved tens of millions of lives through his actions.
Additionally, Trump recounted a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who allegedly expressed admiration for the speed at which the US resolved two persistent conflicts that had eluded resolution by Russia for years.
Trump also discussed Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to him last year, sharing that she plans to visit Washington soon to demonstrate her appreciation and admiration. He suggested that the Nobel Committee in Norway may feel embarrassment over their decision to overlook him for the award last year.
In a recent media interview, Trump reiterated his claim of having averted a significant war between India and Pakistan, continually asserting his role in securing peace between the two potent nuclear powers.
