Jim Bankoff Highlights Value of BRIDGE Summit in Abu Dhabi

Jim Bankoff, the Co-founder, Chair and CEO of Vox Media, said the BRIDGE Summit plays an important role in bringing people together to learn from each other and work as a team to find solutions. He explained that real progress happens through direct human interaction, and when people listen to one another and understand different viewpoints, they are able to contribute more effectively. According to him, this Summit creates a rare chance for open discussion and shared learning.

Speaking to WAM during the first BRIDGE Summit 2025 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, Bankoff shared that this was his first visit to the UAE. He said he may not have come if it were not for the Summit and the opportunity to speak about his field and the world of media. He added that he is thankful for the idea behind BRIDGE and the platform it has created for global cooperation.

When asked about the issues shaping today’s media industry, Bankoff explained that many factors are influencing it because the world is changing quickly. He said society is always evolving, and media sits in the middle of these changes. He pointed out that new technologies such as AI, the fast-growing creator economy, and shifts in how governments and economies work are all transforming the sector. According to him, media organisations must understand these changes, know what audiences want and also consider the business side to stay successful.

He said AI can act as both a challenge and an opportunity, and the focus now is on how to support talented teams, use technology effectively and create strong business growth. Bankoff added that the conversations at the Summit reflect a wide and global perspective, with ideas coming not only from the United States but also from the Gulf, Asia, Africa and Europe. He said it is inspiring to see so many diverse viewpoints come together.

Bankoff praised the UAE’s openness and commitment to learning, saying the country is taking positive steps by investing in innovation, welcoming people from around the world and encouraging knowledge-sharing. He added that from what he has seen, the UAE is moving in the right direction as it works to build a stronger future for the media industry.
