Children Cultural Centre Uses Digital Projects to Teach Omani Heritage

Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

The Children Cultural Centre is part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in Oman. It works to create digital projects specially made for children. These projects help children learn about their culture, creativity, and technology in fun and modern ways. The Centre wants children to use new technology to learn better and prepare for the future.

Helping Children Learn Creativity and Technology

The Centre’s goal is to help children know more about digital technology. It teaches them to be creative and learn by doing activities that are fun and interactive. This makes learning easy and interesting for young people. Using technology, children can get ready for jobs and skills they will need when they grow up.

More Children Joining the Program Every Year

In 2024, more than 35,600 children joined the Centre’s activities. From January to July this year, about 39,300 children took part in the programs. This growing number shows that many children enjoy and benefit from these digital learning projects. The Centre’s programs are becoming more popular because they mix learning with fun.

Strong Links to Omani Culture

Salwa Saif Al Rashdi, the Director of the Children Cultural Centre, said the Centre’s work is not only about showing nice pictures or making fun games. The main aim is to help children connect deeply with their culture. They want children to feel proud of Oman’s heritage and learn about it in a way that feels alive and exciting.

Using New Technology to Teach Culture

To keep Oman’s culture alive, the Centre uses modern technology like virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and electronic games. These tools help children learn about Omani traditions in a new and interesting way. They allow children to experience culture through technology, which helps them enjoy and remember what they learn.

Supporting Oman Vision 2040

The Centre’s digital projects fit well with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the national cultural plan. These plans want to build a creative society, strengthen national identity, and improve education using modern ideas. The Centre wants children to grow up with good knowledge and be able to help build Oman’s future.

Digital Projects Used in Oman and Abroad

The Children Cultural Centre shares its digital projects not only in Oman but also in events outside the country. This helps show Omani culture to people in other places. These projects mix fun and learning so that children can enjoy discovering their history and culture.

Traditional Omani Games Become Digital

One important project includes digital versions of two traditional Omani games called Al-Anbar and Al-Sayyad. The Centre uses special software called Unreal Engine to create these games. This helps children play and learn about the games in a new way. The games teach children to think creatively and solve problems while enjoying their culture.

Learning About the Date Palm Tree

Another project is called “The Date Palm and Related Practices: An Interactive Story on Date Harvesting.” This project uses virtual reality to teach children about the date palm tree. The date palm is very important in Oman’s history and culture. It is even listed by UNESCO as part of the world’s special heritage. The project also teaches children about farming and traditions connected to the date palm.

Virtual Camel Racing Experience

The Centre also made a project called the “Interactive Camel Race Experience.” This uses virtual reality to show children the tradition of camel racing, a popular sport in Oman. Children can join a safe and fun virtual camel race. This helps them learn about Omani customs and enjoy the race in a new way.

The Smart Child Cultural Centre with AI

There is a project named “Smart Child Cultural Centre” that uses artificial intelligence and other technologies. It is a green and eco-friendly model that supports innovation. This project helps children learn about technology and supports Oman’s goal to become a digital country. The project helps children become future leaders in knowledge and technology.

Past Projects That Made an Impact

The Children Cultural Centre has worked on many projects before. One was showing an old manuscript by the Omani doctor Rashid bin Umaira. Another was about folk arts from Oman. These projects helped children learn about Oman’s rich culture and history in interesting ways.

Plans for More Digital Projects

The Centre plans to launch new digital projects later this year. These new projects will continue to help children learn about culture, technology, and creativity. The Centre wants to keep giving children fun and useful ways to learn and stay connected with Oman’s heritage.

Building a Bright Future

The Children Cultural Centre is making a big difference by using technology to teach children about their culture and the world. The digital projects help children grow their skills, think creatively, and feel proud of their Omani heritage. By mixing culture and technology, the Centre is preparing the young generation for a strong and bright future in Oman.
