Ferrari, the famous Italian luxury sports car company, has revealed the technology behind its first electric car, called the Elettrica. This marks an important moment for Ferrari as it moves toward electric vehicles while keeping its strong tradition of high-performance cars alive.
The unveiling happened at Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello, Italy. A Ferrari-red cover was lifted to show the Elettrica’s chassis, battery pack, and electric motor. The car on display did not have wheels or an outer body yet, but it gave a clear view of the car’s inner workings. Ferrari said the complete car will be presented next year at a global event.
The Elettrica will be a four-door car with space for four plus passengers. It will reach a top speed of 310 kilometers per hour (193 miles per hour) and have a driving range of at least 530 kilometers. The car will feature a specially designed sound system that uses vibrations from the powertrain to produce a unique Ferrari electric sound. This is different from other electric cars that often use artificial engine noises.
Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, described the launch as “historic” and said the electric car is meant to complement Ferrari’s current petrol and hybrid models, not replace them. The Elettrica will be part of Ferrari’s plan to make 20% of its lineup fully electric by 2030.
Unlike mainstream car companies, Ferrari has been careful about going electric. The company delayed a second electric vehicle until 2028 because of limited demand. Competitors, like Lamborghini, have also postponed their first EVs to 2029. Ferrari aims to remain relevant to younger buyers who are increasingly interested in electric cars while maintaining its brand identity.
The Elettrica will use 75% recycled aluminium for its chassis and body. Its battery is built into the car floor, which lowers the center of gravity and helps improve speed and handling. The car will also support fast-charging technology, making it convenient for modern drivers.
Experts note that Ferrari is moving into a market where luxury electric cars are growing in importance. Porsche has already launched several EV models, but Ferrari’s Elettrica will combine performance, luxury, and eco-friendly technology in a new way.
The starting price of the Elettrica is expected to be around 500,000 euros ($580,400). This high price reflects the technology, luxury, and exclusivity that Ferrari cars are known for. The company hopes the Elettrica will appeal to wealthy, environmentally-conscious buyers who want a unique driving experience.
Ferrari’s entry into electric cars shows that even traditional carmakers are responding to changes in technology and consumer preferences. By combining speed, luxury, and sustainability, Ferrari aims to keep its place as a leader in the supercar world.
The Elettrica is not just another electric car; it is a statement that Ferrari can innovate while staying true to its brand. As electric vehicles become more popular worldwide, the Elettrica could inspire a new generation of Ferrari owners who want performance without compromising on environmental responsibility.
