Huawei has officially introduced the Mate 70 Air in China, showcasing it as a premium ultra-slim smartphone aimed at competing with the iPhone Air. Measuring just 6.6mm in thickness and weighing 206g, the device features a sleek silhouette coupled with a celestial-inspired look, highlighted by gold thread and brocade silk embellishments, complemented by a shimmering star-ring effect.
This smartphone is equipped with a 7-inch FHD+ OLED screen capable of producing 1.07 billion colors and an impressive P3 wide color gamut, achieving peak brightness levels of 4,000 nits for stunning visuals. Additionally, it supports Vivid Audio and HDR certifications, making it perfect for video streaming and gaming.
Durability is a priority with the Mate 70 Air, featuring Kunlun Glass for drop resistance and robust brocade fiber for added impact protection. With an IP68 and IP69 rating, the device is both dustproof and water-resistant.
Versatile Camera Setup
At the rear, the Mate 70 Air includes a flexible camera array anchored by a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 12MP telephoto lens also with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide macro camera, and a specialized 1.5MP multispectral Red Maple TrueColor sensor. The front camera, at 10.7MP, is tailored for selfies and video conferencing. AI-driven features such as AI-assisted composition, Ultra HD Panorama, AI Portrait Retouching, and AI Glare Removal enhance photography capabilities.
Robust Performance and Battery Efficiency
The Mate 70 Air runs on Huawei’s Kirin 9000 series processors, offering a 12GB RAM variant with Kirin 9020B and a 16GB RAM model featuring the Kirin 9020A. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB, with no expandable memory options available.
Powering the device is a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports 66W SuperCharge while maintaining its slim design. A vapor chamber heat dissipation system ensures optimal thermal performance. Note that wireless charging is not supported.
Operating on HarmonyOS 5.1, the Mate 70 Air boasts features like AI Air Transfer, AI noise cancellation, Tap-to-Share, AI face-swap detection, and stylus compatibility for annotations and extraction, as well as satellite messaging capability and stereo audio via Huawei Histen.
Price and Availability
The Mate 70 Air is offered in three elegant finishes: Gold Thread & Silver Brocade, Feather Robe White, and Radiant Gold Black. Prices in China begin at 4,199 yuan (approximately Rs 52,000) for the 12GB/256GB version. The 12GB/512GB and 16GB/256GB models are priced at 4,699 yuan (approx. Rs 58,400), with the flagship 16GB/512GB variant retailing at 5,199 yuan (approx. Rs 64,600).
Combining ultra-slim aesthetics with premium performance, sophisticated cameras, and advanced AI functionality, the Huawei Mate 70 Air positions itself as a strong competitor in the luxury smartphone arena.
