His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council, visited the UAE Space Agency booth at the Dubai Airshow 2025. He explored the latest advancements, projects, and forthcoming plans within the nation's expanding space sector. During his visit, he was briefed on vital national endeavors such as the Sirb Programme, the Arab Satellite 813 Project, and the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA). This engagement underscored the UAE's firm commitment to enhancing space science and technology.
Sheikh Hamdan commended the UAE Space Agency for its relentless efforts in bolstering the UAE's stature as a leading entity in space exploration. He remarked that the UAE's investments in this domain stem from the belief that the future belongs to innovative thinkers who can transform audacious concepts into tangible outcomes. He emphasized that every significant achievement begins with a basic idea nurtured through determination and excellence, reflecting the UAE’s aspirations in space exploration and technological innovation. Furthermore, he noted that the contributions of skilled Emiratis are paving the way for a brighter future.
He pointed out that every new venture and partnership enhances the UAE's global presence in the space industry. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that the ambition of the UAE and the enthusiasm of its young talents are crucial to the nation's progress. Such collaborations allow the UAE to gain new knowledge, advanced technologies, and meaningful contributions to global scientific achievements.
During the visit, officials presented Sheikh Hamdan with the preliminary design of the Sirb satellite system. The Sirb Programme aims to ensure the UAE's autonomy in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging. This technology facilitates the capture of high-resolution images even under adverse conditions. The initiative aligns with the UAE's goal to empower the private sector and enhance national capabilities.
Managed by the UAE Space Agency with EDGE Group as the strategic partner, the Sirb Programme involves other key players like the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Space42. The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, with a dedicated group of Emirati engineers being trained in SAR technology, satellite design, and systems engineering. Through collaborations with international specialists, the UAE is taking significant strides in creating its advanced satellite technologies.
Updates on the Arab Satellite 813 project were also discussed. This initiative has successfully passed two crucial stages—Launch Readiness Review and Operational Readiness Review—marking important progress towards its launch. The project showcases the UAE’s capability to assemble and test satellites domestically, propelling the first joint Arab space venture forward seamlessly. This satellite will offer Arab scientists and researchers the opportunity to engage actively in the development and utilization of sophisticated space technologies.
Furthermore, Sheikh Hamdan was given insight into the UAE Space Agency's broader initiatives in promoting scientific research, encouraging innovation, training national talents, and fostering strong collaborations locally and globally to establish a resilient and competitive space sector that aligns with the UAE’s long-term vision.
At the Dubai Airshow 2025, the UAE Space Agency showcased the largest Space Pavilion, drawing active participation from national and international entities. Attendees could engage with cutting-edge space technologies and explore national projects while recognizing the critical role of Emirati expertise in shaping the UAE's space future.
The event also hosted a dedicated space conference featuring over 60 speakers, including astronauts and specialists from major space agencies. Educational activities such as the Planet X challenge, space application contests, and graduation ceremonies for students of the National Space Academy took place. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and strategic agreements were executed to advance scientific research and technology innovation, enhancing cooperation with international partners for future space endeavors.
