Lumo Launches Premium Autonomous Robotaxi Fleet in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Lumo, a UAE-based taxi company focused on autonomous mobility, has announced the launch of a new premium robotaxi fleet for Abu Dhabi. This major project is being developed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, Momenta, and Lumo’s local operational expertise. The robotaxis are powered by Momenta’s advanced L4 autonomous driving system and built on the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class, making it the first scalable luxury robotaxi model based on a mass-produced premium vehicle.

The company plans to begin commercial services in Abu Dhabi next year. After that, the robotaxi fleet will expand to more international markets. The collaboration aims to combine world-class engineering, cutting-edge artificial intelligence, and strong on-ground operating capabilities to create the next generation of smart transportation.

Faisal Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs, said that the UAE is the perfect place to develop future mobility solutions. He praised the nation’s clear vision, quick progress, and strong commitment to new technology. According to him, this partnership shows the highest standards of engineering and autonomous intelligence coming together in one ecosystem.

Mercedes-Benz CTO Joerg Burzer said the partnership is redefining global mobility standards by creating premium robotaxis that focus on safety, comfort, and sophistication. He added that the goal is to set a new benchmark for intelligent transportation worldwide.

Momenta CEO Xudong Cao explained that this collaboration brings together Mercedes-Benz’s long history of engineering, Momenta’s AI expertise, and Lumo’s strong operational strengths. He said the robotaxi service, powered by Momenta’s R6 reinforcement learning model, aims to provide a safe, high-quality, and intelligent mobility experience for passengers in the UAE and beyond.
