Xiaomi is gearing up to bolster its flagship smartphone range with the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Following the introduction of the Xiaomi 17 series, the company has confirmed that a new Ultra model is imminent. Initial launch is anticipated in China later this month, with plans for wider availability afterward.
A significant aspect of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the ongoing collaboration with Leica. Xiaomi has disclosed that the new device will incorporate a camera system optimized by Leica. This partnership is evolving significantly, with both brands striving for a deeper level of co-creation, meaning closer collaboration on camera design and performance. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is anticipated to be the first device benefitting from this enhanced partnership.
Expected Launch Date and Pricing
Xiaomi recently updated its followers on Weibo, stating that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be unveiled in China next week. Although no specific date has been provided, sources suggest it might take place between December 22 and December 27. Industry insiders speculate that the reveal could occur on December 26, with pre-orders commencing a day prior.
Regarding pricing, it is expected that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will align with the pricing strategy of its predecessor. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra entered the market with a premium price, depending on storage and RAM configurations. Following this trend, the new model is projected to target the high-end market, specifically developed for users seeking superior performance and camera capabilities.
Redesigned Aesthetics and Camera Features
While Xiaomi has yet to officially reveal the design of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, leaked images of its rear panel have surfaced, indicating a notable design shift from the previous Ultra model.
The leaked photos showcase a distinctive rectangular camera module centered on the back panel, a departure from the circular configuration on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. This new module is expected to accommodate a quad-camera setup, featuring a periscope telephoto lens, hinting at enhanced zoom abilities and a fresh aesthetic for the Ultra series.
For camera hardware, it’s rumored that the device will include a 50-megapixel primary camera, a robust 200-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. With Leica’s enhancements and Xiaomi’s advanced imaging software, the phone aims to excel in photography and video capabilities.
Performance Specs and Hardware
On the performance front, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Built using a 3nm architecture, this processor is optimized for enhanced speed, efficiency, and superior AI functions, making it apt for gaming, photography, and daily strenuous tasks.
With its high-end hardware, revamped camera system, and strengthened Leica partnership, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is set to become one of the key flagship phones of the upcoming year. As the launch approaches, additional details are set to emerge, providing users with a better insight into what this new Ultra model will bring.
