The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has officially inaugurated the Advanced Technology and Artificial Intelligence Centre (ATAIC), marking a major step in the university’s shift from consuming innovation to creating it.
Established under the School of Engineering and Computing with support from the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) ICT Fund, ATAIC aims to drive regional transformation through applied research, industry collaboration, and talent development in AI and advanced technologies.
The Center is designed to connect academic learning with real-world industry needs, ensuring graduates are both job-ready and prepared for future challenges in a digital-first world.
At the inauguration, Professor Bassam Alameddine, President of AURAK, said, “The Advanced Technology and Artificial Intelligence Centre is more than a research facility; it is a strategic engine for our region’s economic and intellectual growth. AI is not just automation—it is a fundamental shift in solving complex problems. ATAIC bridges academic theory with global market demands to make our graduates future-proof.”
Professor Alameddine also thanked the TDRA ICT Fund for its support, highlighting the partnership as part of the UAE’s commitment to research and education in advanced technologies.
Dr. Khouloud Salameh, Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Computing and Director of ATAIC, added, “ATAIC offers a state-of-the-art ecosystem with high-performance computing clusters, AI workstations, robotics kits, and IoT devices. It is a collaborative platform where students, faculty, and industry partners co-develop solutions in machine learning, smart systems, and digital transformation.”
ATAIC focuses on applied research, industry-driven projects, and business incubation. Student projects displayed at the launch showcased practical AI applications developed in collaboration with industry partners.
The launch was attended by representatives from TDRA, Ras Al Khaimah Statistics, Julphar, Dell, Microsoft, AWS, Huawei, and IBM, underlining AURAK’s model of co-creation between academia and industry.
The establishment of ATAIC aligns with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, reinforcing AURAK’s role in making Ras Al Khaimah a hub for smart systems, data science, and advanced digital innovation.
