Abu Dhabi: Khalifa University of Science and Technology has strengthened its global academic standing by securing the 6th position worldwide in Petroleum Engineering in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. The achievement marks an improvement from its 7th place ranking in 2025, reflecting the university’s continued excellence in energy-related disciplines.
The university also recorded notable progress across several key engineering fields. The broader category of Engineering and Technology achieved a global ranking of 131, while Electrical and Electronic Engineering climbed to 92nd place. Chemical Engineering saw the most significant jump, entering the Top 100 at 94th, up from the 151–200 range last year.
In total, Khalifa University secured rankings in 15 subjects across multiple categories in the 2026 edition. Among these, three subjects ranked within the global Top 100, while another three placed within the Top 150, highlighting the institution’s growing academic influence.

A key milestone this year is the university’s first-ever inclusion in the Natural Sciences category, where it ranked 220th globally, marking its expanding footprint in broader scientific research.
Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, emphasized that these achievements reflect a strategic focus on impactful research aligned with national priorities. He noted that strong performance in globally competitive disciplines underscores the university’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and the development of future-ready talent.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 evaluated 6,277 institutions worldwide, with 1,912 universities ranked across 55 subjects and five broad academic areas, resulting in over 21,000 individual rankings.
Khalifa University’s consistent rise highlights its role as a leading center for research, innovation, and engineering education, supporting both regional development and global scientific advancement.
